First Contact Practitioner (FCP) – Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist at The Swan Medical Group

The Swan Medical Group is now able to offer FCPs who are specialist musculoskeletal Physiotherapists.

This allows patients contacting the surgery with a problem concerning their bones, joints or muscles to be assessed faster by an experienced specialist in MSK problems. They will be able to quickly assess, diagnose and provide expert advice on how best to manage the condition. They have the ability to refer on to specialist services if necessary.

‘Right person, right place, first time’

This is an assessment and advise service for patients of the Swan Medical Group who have a MSK problem such as:

• Back or neck pain
• Sprains or strains – ankle, shoulder, wrist etc.
• Sporting injuries including Achilles’ tendon, Plantarfasciitis, knee ligament injuries
• Joint or muscle pain – shoulder, knee, hip ankle, elbow, wrist

On average MSK conditions account for around 30% of the GPs caseload. In most of these cases patients do not need to see their GP and can now book an appointment directly with their specialist FCP instead. Making it quicker for patients to access expert knowledge and skills for their musculoskeletal problems.
